To celebrate this fantastic new feature, we would love all of you to show us how green-fingered you are by participating in our latest forum contest, the Pet Society Garden Competition!
So here’s the idea. You take a photo of your garden (or if you don’t have a garden perhaps you could take a photo of your friend’s garden, or a local park, or something similar) and you try to make your Pet Society garden look as similar as possible. Then you show us both your photo and an image of your Pet Society garden in the forum.

How does your garden grow?

Well folks, we’ve been working hard on the latest feature for Pet Society, and just in time for summer we’re really proud to show you around your very own gardens!
You should find that you already have one garden, and if you’ve been playing for at least a few days you should have two. You’ll notice two little extra cells in your map which you can click on to find them. Go see!
If you take a stroll down to the Pet Society high street you should also see a new gardening store. Allow us to introduce Mrs. Appleblossom. We’re sure you’ll love her, she’s a very kind old lady and an excellent gardener. You’ll be able to buy seeds from Mrs. Appleblossom and that’s where things get really interesting.
You’ll notice that you have mounds of earth in your garden. These are seed beds where you can plant flower, tree and vegetable seeds. Seeds are a little like Mystery Boxes — you buy a flower, tree or vegetable seed, but you have no idea what will grow out of it. You may even find they grow into rare Mysterious Plants!
Here’s how all the seeds work:
Flower seeds
Flower seeds take about 24 hours to grow into all kinds of colorful flowers. These can be pulled up from the ground and used to decorate your house (they look great in a vase), given to your friends as a exclusive gift which they won’t find in the shops, or just sold to earn you some coins.
Tree seeds
Tree seeds take 72 hours to grow. Once a tree is fully grown it will start to bear fruit, so it’s worth checking back daily to see what it’s produced. You can give fruit to your pet, send it as a gift to your friends, or sell it on for a steady coin income. The fruit which the tree bears depends on what type of tree it is. You could even create an orchard in your garden!
Vegetable seeds
Vegetables grow larger and larger the longer you leave them in the ground, although after 9 days the vegetable won’t grow any more. The larger a vegetable is the more valuable it is, but leaving them to grow for too long can be risky because the longer you wait the greater the chance you might find the vegetable has rotted away by the time you pull it up! If you can create a steady flow of large vegetables you may be able to turn a tidy profit, or perhaps you’d just like to share lots of vegetables with your friends? Perhaps you could arrange a competition to see who can grow the largest vegetable? It’s really up to you!

Love works in mysterious ways

Finally! The opening day of the hotel has come. Miss Summer Sunshine was so excited that she couldn’t stand still. For many years she had had a dream about working as a chef at her own place. Now it was happening – Hotel Petfriends was opening today. It had four rooms with double beds: The Jungle room, the Safari room, the Princess room and the Classic room; two toilets to share, a well sorted kitchen and a little outside café. It was an exciting thing for the society to get a hotel, the first one. Even the Mayor was coming to say a few words at the opening.
The first party of guests had already booked rooms for the next weekend. Clonyco had just started an event coordination office, and her first arrangement was a stay at the new hotel. Everything was arranged.
Miss Sunshine smiled. Her best friend Lily had just come. She was a very talented ballet dancer and had promised to perform at the opening. But – she looked sad. What was wrong?
“Why do you look so sad today, Lily?” Miss Sunshine asked.
“Oh… it’s nothing,” Lily looked away.
“But – I can see something is wrong. Tell me. I am your best friend.”
“Well… every spring I get like this. The birds are building their nests, new lambs are born, lovesick cats are singing the night away – everybody is falling in love. But not me.”
“I see. But somewhere there will be someone for you, too. I am sure about that, Lily.”
Lily smiled, “Maybe you are right. The one and only is out there somewhere. I just haven’t met him yet.”
The two friends smiled at each other.
Suddenly the reception bell rang. Miss Sunshine jumped. Her first guest!
“I will be right back. Then we can talk. But I need to welcome my first guest!”
“Of course!” Lily turned around and started her warm-up for the dance later.
Miss Sunshine hurried down to the reception. There he was. He turned around.
“Ehh…. Welcome,” Miss Sunshine frowned. “Are you going to stay here?” He didn’t really look like she had expected her first guest would look like. She had thought he would be a little more… noble. But now he was there, and he was her guest.
“Yeah… hi…”. His voice was raspy. “My own place has been invaded by bats. I can’t sleep because of the squeaking and rustling in the walls. I need my sleep”.
“And… you sleep during the night?” Miss Sunshine had to ask. “I don’t have a dungeon… I mean…”
“Of course I sleep during the night! Do you think I have to stay out of the sun, and every morning I take out my coffin to sleep in?” He laughed. “I have heard that before”.
Miss Sunshine blushed. It was exactly what she had thought.
“You can stay in the Jungle room. What is your name?”
“Ølmanden”, he answered. Papers were filled out, and he left for his room.
Ølmanden? What kind of a name was that? She rushed up to Lily.
“I just need to go. I will be back very soon!”
Miss Sunshine was going to see her sister Smoothy. She was a real globe trotter and knew many words. When she arrived at her house, Smoothy was all packed to go to Austria. She loved the mountains and was going to climb them for a whole week.
“No, sis,” she shook her head. “I am sorry. I don’t know that language. Try the library”.
At the library she met Panda. He was very clever and loved reading. He read big books, small books, fiction and non-fiction. If it was in a book, you could be sure that Panda knew about it.
“Hi, Panda. I need to find the meaning of a word, but I don’t know what language?”
“What is the word?” Panda asked.
“Ølmanden”.
“Oh! That must be Danish. Just a minute!” Panda disappeared behind some book shelves. He found an old, dusty dictionary. “Here it is. Ølmanden… ølmanden… Got it! It means… the Beer man…”
“Hmm… not a promising name. What kinds of parents call their son that? I hope he doesn’t give me trouble at the hotel.”
Miss Sunshine hurried home. In an hour the opening would start.
When she came home a strange sight met her. Lily and Ølmanden were standing outside. They didn’t say a word. They were just looking at each other. The air was quivering. Time stood still.
They had fallen in love at first sight. Miss Sunshine had never seen it happen before, but that was had happened.
“Well,” she said. “I guess we can turn the opening into a wedding as well.”
Lily nodded. Ølmanden nodded. And so it was.
The hotel opened. Balloons were put up, guests were arriving, and Miss Sunshine made a big wedding cake. The Mayor came and had brought his brother too. He was Mayor in Restaurant City, the neighbouring town.
Ølmanden had bought Lily a beautiful ring, and Lily had found herself a marvelous wedding dress. Everybody was happy.
But dark clouds were gathering. Lily had put the ring on the table, while she was dancing, and when she was done, the ring was gone! Everybody was questioned, but no answers were helping. Suddenly the Mayor yelled, “There! A thief!”
Somebody was hiding behind a bamboo screen in the Jungle room. “Come out,” the Mayor said. A dark shadow rose. He was covered in black from top to toe. In his hands he had the ring.
“My glasses,” he whispered. “I need my glasses”.
Miss Sunshine wondered. She knew that voice!
“Panda!” she cried.
“Yes, it’s me.”
Nobody said a word.
“I… well…” He cleared his throat. “I… You see. I have read all these exciting stories about pirates, robbers, ninjas, mysteries… and… I just thought I wanted to go on an adventure myself. I didn’t mean to keep the ring. And I felt so bad… and… Please, will somebody find my glasses for me?”
Miss Sunshine didn’t know what to say. Everybody had been so upset. Both Panda and Lily were her very good friends.
“You shouldn’t have taken the ring, Panda. But everybody needs an adventure sometimes. Maybe this is something for Clonyco as an event coordinator? She can arrange mysteries and adventures for everybody, but then everybody knows that it is just for fun, and nobody will be upset.”
Panda nodded. He was so ashamed of himself.
“I have a lot of ideas for new adventures. Can I be your assistant?” he asked Clonyco.
Lily and Ølmanden were in love and were just happy to get the ring back. They couldn’t stop kissing each other.
That night Miss Sunshine couldn’t fall asleep. It had been an exciting day. The town had got a hotel, an event coordinator, a ninja thief and a newly wed couple, all in one day! What pleased Miss Sunshine the most was that her friend had finally found the one and only. Love really works in mysterious ways!

“?” was determined to not let any pictures get into the wrong hands this week, so to ensure they were safely disposed of, he shredded them after the order was finalised.
However, while sitting by the fountain, eating biscuits, and wearing a disguise (to avoid alerting “?” she was around), Sirius heard the paper shredder, so peaked through the door of the Mystery Store to see what was happening. As soon as “?” was out of sight, she snuck in and grabbed the strips.
Unfortunately, she’s had no time to piece them together as yet, but maybe they will give you an idea of what to look for anyway!

Meet Terrence and his amazing new store!

Terrence, the latest new resident of Pet Society, has opened a brand new store selling all kinds of rare and exotic items! After many years of scouring the world for the most interesting and obscure artefacts, the exotic items which Terrence stocks in his new Cash Shop are more rare and more exciting than any you’ve ever seen before. Many even have magical powers — you can find out what powers an item has by clicking them, you may be surprised!
A significant aspect of Terrence’s Cash Shop is that all of the items can be bought using brand new Playfish Cash! You may notice an ATM in the store. You can get Playfish cash by clicking on the machine, which allows you to buy anything you like in the shop.For more detailed information on Playfish Cash, please refer to our knowledge base.
What kind of items can you buy at the Cash Shop? How about a pair of magical shoes which allow you to run more quickly, adorned with the feathers of a spine tailed swift? Or a teleporter device which will transport you to a random location? Or perhaps you’d like a charm which increases your luck at shaking trees for coins, fashioned from Himalayan rudraksh shells? Or better still, walk over to the store and see for yourself. There’s bound to be something you’ll love!

This is an announcement for everyone who plays our MySpace version of the game!
To assist with the continuing development of Pet Society, the MySpace version of the game will be revisiting some past weeks’ releases temporarily!
What does this mean for you? Well, this Monday you will be taken back to ‘Whether for a Clock or a Shamrock, it is time to shop!’; this means that you will once again be able to purchase the adorable Bulldog Doll that you may have missed as it was very soon after the release of the game on MySpace! In the following weeks, you will have more chances to purchase items that you may have missed, not had enough coins for, or simply would like an extra of (Delicious Pie anyone?)! And, if you feel like you have not missed a thing, this is a great chance to save up some coins to purchase some of the more expensive items in the standard shops that you might not have been able to save for until now!
Additionally, the launch collection will remain available for the entirety of this rotation period!
However, it also means that any new releases from this coming Monday onwards will not be available in MySpace just yet, and any new mysterious items will also not be available in the MySpace version yet (mysterious items from ‘Raining on “?”’s Parade’ and earlier will be available throughout this phase though 
We hope you and your pet will enjoy this chance to re-discover Pet Society MySpace history and make the most of this opportunity to collect some items that you may have missed!

Tiddly-Winks’ Music

Tiddly-Winks has so many hobbies that it sometimes seems as though she loses track of them all. She loves spending the spring days in her neighbourhood bumping trees, collecting coins, and savouring a piece of cheese after a hard day’s work.
Of course, the most enjoyable activity is to visit her friends. Each one is unique and special for variety of reasons.
Bubba always has a funny joke to tell, Harry tells her about the movies he has seen, Mookie and she enjoy looking at new furniture, Benjamina shows her the fine art of decorating a cheese room, Rio-Clarice and she go window shopping, and Skunk shows her his latest dance moves over sparking pear juice.
However, the thing that she truly loves is to make music. She enjoys music as much as she enjoys buying a new dress at the clothing store, or checking out her latest mystery box purchase.
One of her favourite places to go to play music is her friend Kokonee’s house. Kokonee is one of her best friends and they’ve known each other for a very long time. Whenever the two of them do get together, it is a given as to the activity they will choose first.
As soon as they hug one another, Kokonee immediately races across her living room to the acoustic guitar in one corner. She has no doubt been anticipating Tiddly-Winks’ visit as much as Tiddly-Winks had anticipated stopping by.
Kokonee begins to strum while Tiddly-Winks grabs the trumpet and brings it to her lips. After a proper warm-up tone emerges, the room is suddenly filled with cheerful music. This leaves both friends feeling very happy as the final tone fades.
Each day this happens whenever Tiddly-Winks visits her friend, and each day there is a feeling of joy that emanates from them as they play their favourite songs together.
Once the two friends have finished their jam session, they laugh before they head off to the café to sit down and enjoy a blueberry muffin or cheesecake. Their discussions are usually about their love of music and what songs they will be playing tomorrow.

Song contest winners announced!
April 28, 2009 by mark bendonWe were amazed by the level of quality on show for the Pet Society song competition. So good in fact that our only complaint is that you’ve made it really really hard to pick just three winners!
But pick them we must, so without further ado, it gives us great pleasure to announce the winners of the Pet Society song competition!
In third place is the excellent Bailey Love by OzencOnline. As with all the winners of the competition it’s superbly catchy, captures some of the things we love about Pet Society. We defy anyone to listen to Bailey Love without tapping their foot in time to it!
Second up is My Wife Loves Pet Society More Than Me! which was a fantastic little bittersweet song about a man whose wife may just love Pet Society more than him. An expertly crafted acoustic tune and some great work on the guitar… we hope your wife finds a little time for you as well as her pet soon, sodapete!
In many ways this is as much a joint first place with the other winners, but for sheer singalong genius we had to pick Because I Got Pied to edge out the other songs for the top spot. It made us laugh, it made us cry (with laughter), and by the end of the song we were even singing along. ardydelrosario, we salute you!
Thank you to everyone for entering! Entries were uniformly excellent. In fact special mention must go to the brilliant Pet Society Song, which fell down only due to being a little short… an otherwise superb offering from TribeSpirit and well worth a listen.

Pet Society becomes the first game on Facebook to surpass 1,000,000 fans!

We’ve been delighted to watch the continuous growth of Pet Society – our social virtual world on Facebook and MySpace. Since launch 8 months ago it has grown steadily to become the biggest game on Facebook by daily active users. Around 3 million people play every day, and around 11 million played in the last month alone. Today we’re delighted to announce passing another milestone – 1,000,000 fans! And it’s the first game on Facebook to get there!
‘Love’ has always been an important success metric for us at Playfish. Our teams across our studios work hard to create games that our players love to play together as much as we love to create them. ‘Love’ is, of course, difficult to measure in numbers, but there is one metric on Facebook – fans. And today we’re proud that Pet Society has passed the 1 million fan milestone as the first game on the platform! That means that over 1 million players have found the ‘become a fan’ link in the game and chosen to register themselves as a fan of the game.
As ever, we’re hugely grateful to all our players and their support and help in our efforts to evolve the game and make it better. We appreciate that the game has a monthly population that’s bigger than Belgium if it was a country and around the size of Ohio if it was a state. So we’re working hard on adding features, items and new exciting things to do in the game!
Please keep the feedback and suggestions coming. We can’t always reply to every mail and forum post, but we do read them and value all the comments we get!

In the Mystery Store you will find the Glitter Apple, which is the first of a new series of mysterious foods being introduced that are perishable. This means that the food will only last for a certain period of time (you are told the time period prior to purchase), so your pet needs to eat it before it expires! These items will also have a timer clock over them while in your chest to give an indication of the time remaining until they disappear. Unlike standard foods which increase your pet’s health, when eaten mysterious foods will cause a magical effect to occur instead, the effect is only temporary and has a set time period. If you wish to remove the effect sooner, Effect Away has also been introduced to the Mystery Store, when your pet drinks this, the current effect will cease.

If you play Pet Society on Facebook, the fantastic new feature you will notice is a camera icon labeled “Take a Photo” next to the status icon! This icon allows you to take a photo of your pet in its home, a friend’s home, while walking the neighborhood, racing or even while in the various shops! From your pet’s home or a friend’s home, you can take a photo of the room, or a close up of your pet in its surroundings, or a portrait of your pet (the background is removed); from anywhere else you can take a picture of the scene, a close up, or again a portrait shot! The photo is designed to be saved in an album labeled “Pet Society” in your Facebook photos, so you will need to give the application permission to upload photos!
Also “?” has just released some more mysterious items! There are no secrets this week, here is what you can now find (if you are currently playing, remember that you will need to save and quit and then reload to have a chance of finding these items!):

By recycling your items you can earn exclusive Eco Rewards for you and your pet. To recycle an item, drag the item from your chest or closet to the Recycler (which is located under the cash register)! Each item you recycle has a certain number of points associated with recycling it. Once you build up 10,000, 20,000 or 30,000 Recycle Points you can cash them out for an Eco Prize. The various Eco Prizes have differing Eco Rewards in them (and can be opened like a mystery box), what you find in your Eco Prize is determined by chance. Eco Rewards include:

“He’s shy and should never be seen! [He doesn't] like being in the limelight like the powerful pets, so he, the evil genius behind them, researches [secretly] on his specialisation: ‘pets to take over the entire world!’”
How did Spiggee gain the honour of working in the Mayor’s secret library?
“Well Spiggee is a pirate in disguise; he sails round infiltrating pirate ships and capturing all of the big bad wolves (scammers) out there. Of course, his main goal is not the small little pirates (scammers) but people who teach them to scam (the boss) and to date he has found one! Due to that, he has gained the honour of working in the secret library.”
Bams‘ Mayor Doll had an interesting tour of Chester’s home!
Here is Chester’s story:
“Chester invited the Mayor for tea at his home. As soon as word of the Mayor’s visit [reached] the public, the paparazzi came flocking to our gate (some even hired helicopters to get a clear shot of our dear Mayor).
We decided to take the Mayor inside, away from the flashlights and the buzzing reporters and to entertain our guest Chester picked up the guitar and played him a song. The Mayor was a bit shocked by the kind of music that Chester played.
Then we took him to the study for a quiet chat on the recent economy of the Society and we showed him our new salt water aquarium. The Mayor was looking a bit uncomfortable because Chester was sitting too close and kept staring at him with adoring eyes!
When it was time for [the Mayor] to go home he asked to use the toilet, but once again he got another shock by finding a koala on the toilet! 
We asked him to pay us a visit again if he’s not busy, but he just mumbled his goodbye, waved, and left hurriedly home.
We’re somewhat glad that we didn’t take him to see our bedroom!

Some exciting news from the Playfish team!

We’re very proud to announce that Pet Society is going to be made into a feature film! That’s right, all your favorite pets will have starring roles in a rollicking adventure to discover the true identity of “?”, the enigmatic owner of the Mystery Store – thanks to our friends at Coelacanthe Productions in Hollywood!
While the script is still in development, we can confirm that the film is going to be a madcap, non-stop adventure/thriller/romantic/comedy with sci-fi overtones, and little Bollywood-inspired singing and dancing thrown in for good measure. In short, it’ll have something for everyone!
A variety of your favorite actors and actresses are being considered for starring for roles as shopkeepers and, of course, the mayor, and we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as the cast is finalized.
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll talk endlessly about cheese and maybe, just maybe, you’ll learn a little about yourself.

How you perform the song is up to you — whether you want to use instruments, or compose something on your computer, or just sing or rap… it’s really up to you. All we ask is that it’s your own work, and that the content is family friendly.
The best songs will take pride of place on www.petsociety.com so everyone can enjoy your masterpiece!
Once you’ve got a video of your song, upload it to YouTube (preferably with the lyrics written into the description) and post a link in the Pet Society Competition forum, but remember to get your entry in before the close of the competition in four weeks!

Letter from the Mayor – Supplier issues

Now, there’s bad news and good news. The bad news is that jukeboxes and luscious lips loungers will soon be taken off the shelves. Unfortunately in these difficult times our supplier, Pet Party Products Inc. has gone out of business, and after we’ve sold the the last shipment of jukeboxes and loungers, they will be discontinued.
The good news is that we’ve been able to locate another supplier, Pampered Pets Inc., who not only stock a larger range of jukeboxes and loungers — they’re also cheaper!
Of course, if you’ve always wanted a jukebox or luscious lips lounger then now would be the time to buy — they won’t be around much longer!

The Mystery Store is the new home of Mystery Boxes! The shop keeper is as mysterious as the items in his shop though, no one knows his real name, so we just refer to him as “?”! You can read more about “?”, even though he will still remain a mystery, on the neighborhood page.
The Mystery Store is about more than just Mystery Boxes though! When you enter you will see the Mystery Egg Vending Machine!

When you select the Mystery Egg Vending Machine it will ask you if you would like to buy a Toy Mystery Egg. A Toy Mystery Egg can be placed on the floor by your pet, and your pet will ‘open’ it, similar to a Mystery Box. Inside your Toy Mystery Egg you will find either a toy or a scene! The toys from Toy Mystery Eggs are different to the other toys in the game, instead of your pet picking them up, carrying them around, and giggling, they are designed to work with the scenes (although they can just be placed on the floor, or a shelf, etc. as well). Each scene has a place for four specific toys, and animates. The scene does not require the toys to animate, however, the toys will only animate if placed on their matching scene! Hence, the animation will only be complete with all four matching toys on their specific scene. Please note that you need to click the scene to start or stop the animation!
There is one more thing you need to know about Toy Mystery Eggs and the toys and scenes that can be found in them, which is that the toys and scenes cannot be gifted! They are collectable items which you can only find for yourself!

Moving on to the weekly item release! Remember that any items labeled This Week’s Special (TWS) will be removed from stores at midnight GMT on Monday the 23rd of March, but may be available again at some point in the future.

DIY Landmark Competition Results!

As per usual it was incredibly hard for us to pick a winner, and so many of you deserved a mention, but we thought these three stood out to us as being exceptional. We strongly recommend having a good look through the threads though to see some of the amazing work on show!
Second place goes to Nickie and her White House. We think she may have run out of space at the top to include the famously domed roof in its entirety, but we felt this was possibly the most striking entry of all with the amazing use of kitchen containers as the walls and windows of the famous building. Nice work Nickie!
What’s in a box?
March 10, 2009 by SonyaWhat’s in a box? – Well obviously that depends on what box you are talking about, but this entry is all about Mystery Boxes! (Many of you already know about Mystery Boxes, but this is primarily for those who do not!)
Mystery boxes look like:
At first glance, they may not seem like the most appropriate thing to buy to enhance your pet’s life, but each box contains a surprise!
So when you buy one of these boxes from the store, and go home and place it on the floor of a room, your pet will open it (as if it were a present) and a random item will appear. The item could be furniture, a plant, clothes, a D.I.Y. item, a toy or even food! You are always taking a chance when buying a Mystery Box though, as the item inside could be worth the same, more, or less than the purchase price of the box and there is no guarantee you will want the item you find; but for many people, opening Mystery Boxes is a large part of their game!
There are three Mystery Boxes available, the Red Mystery Box, which costs 50 coins, the Blue Mystery Box, which costs 200 coins and the Golden Mystery Box, which costs 500 coins! Most of the time the different boxes contain different items, however there is some overlap (for example you could find a Robot in either the Blue Mystery Box or the Golden Mystery Box). In general though, you can find higher value items in the more expensive boxes.
Another thing that you should know about Mystery Boxes is that there are some items released in Pet Society that are known as ‘Mysterious Items’. These items are ones that have never been available in the normal stores, but can only be found in Mystery Boxes! Mysterious items will only appear in their allocated boxes (whether it is the Red Mystery Box, the Blue Mystery Box or the Golden Mystery Box); we will not spoil the surprise of which items can be found in which boxes, but will leave that for you to discover! This week, we are introducing the Playfish Clock, which can be found in the Furniture Store! This is different to all other clocks currently in the game as it runs on Playfish time (as opposed to your local computer’s time). It is a 24 hour digital clock, so you can tell when midnight Playfish time is approaching (so you can be certain of when the new day starts for lottery, visiting and races). Playfish time is based upon Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)! GMT is not affected by daylight savings, so if/when your local area changes their clocks for daylight savings, remember that this will mean your Pet Society day will reset at a different time according to your local timezone!

Last Thursday we had a large update of Pet Society, the most major change being we added 13 new levels to the game; the new maximum is level 47. In conjunction with this three new houses, which can be gained at level 35 (7 rooms), level 41 (8 rooms) and level 47 (9 rooms), were incorporated!

At the same time as this update, three new mysterious items were introduced to the game! Mysterious items are only able to be found by chance in mystery boxes. The latest mystery items are the Pet Wall Scroll, Elephant Doll and Stainless Steel Small Bin!

The Pet Wall Scroll, with the characters meaning ‘Pet’ in Japanese, brought a little taste of Japan into Pet Society which was continued through to some of this week’s releases earlier today!
